Our basic water chemistry and water quality analysis training forms a foundational programme designed to help participants understand the fundamental chemical properties of water and the techniques used to analyse its quality. This training is essential for professionals in industrial water treatment, environmental monitoring, and related fields, as it provides the basic knowledge needed to make informed decisions based on water analysis.

Overview of our basic water chemistry course

WTS 0010 is an interactive e-learning module and forms an essential learning foundation to further study and covers the basic chemistry of water, its use in industrial and commercial applications, why and how it is treated, and the importance of water quality analysis in informing treatment decisions.

Typical candidates will be water treatment engineers, facilities managers, maintenance and engineering contractors, and those with responsibility for the operation of industrial and commercial water systems.

Basic chemistry of water and analysis training course content

Our foundation module WTS 0010 “Basic Chemistry of Water & Analysis” covers the following essential subjects to ensure delegates develop the skills and practical knowledge required to fulfil their responsibilities with confidence:

  • Introduction

    Introduction to the course and the subjects covered.

  • Water Sources

    A review of the common sources of water and where water is used in domestic, commercial, industrial and process environments.

  • Chemistry of Water & Common Contaminants

    A review of the chemical constituents of water, common contaminants of water and the issues caused by such contaminants including:

    • Scale
    • Corrosion
    • Bio-fouling
    • Suspended solids
  • Water Analysis

    An introduction to water quality analysis techniques.

  • Water Analysis Equipment

    A review of the equipment commonly used to analyse water.

  • Examination

    Multiple choice online examination covering the course content.

Who is this basic water chemistry and analysis training for?

Typical candidates will be water treatment engineers, facilities managers, maintenance and engineering contractors, and those with responsibility for the operation of commercial, industrial and process water systems.

This course provides a useful introduction to the basic chemistry of water, how it is used, water quality analysis and treatment techniques. Candidates will find this course beneficial before progressing to our more specialist water and wastewater treatment training courses.

Please note that this course is a specific pre-qualification requirement for some of our other more specialist training courses.

What will you learn about water chemistry and water quality analysis?

This course will give candidates an understanding of the common sources of water and how water is used in different ways in commercial, industrial and process environments.

This course will also help candidates understand the basic chemistry of water, common contaminants and the problems that can result from using water containing these contaminants; namely scale, corrosion, bio-fouling and suspended solids.

Candidates will gain a basic understanding of how to manage and control engineered systems in which water is used to achieve optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Additionally, candidates will develop an understanding of how to perform basic water analysis and testing, and how to interpret the results so as to monitor, control and manage the consequences of scale, corrosion, bio-fouling and suspended solids.

Engineer learning about basic water chemistry and water quality analysis

Are there pre-qualification requirements?

There are no specific pre-qualification requirements for this course although prior knowledge of engineered water systems and issues associated with water treatment would be of benefit.

Water treatment training certificate

On successful completion candidates will receive a certificate of attainment issued by Water Treatment Services for the course “Basic Chemistry of Water & Analysis” – WTS 0010.

This certificate should be retained as evidence of formal training in this subject.

This course is delivered online as an interactive e-learning course. The duration is approximately 1/2 day.
