This intensive two day legionella responsible person training course has been developed by the water safety experts at Water Treatment Services. It is designed to support organisations and individuals, principally the statutory duty holder and appointed responsible person, with day-to-day responsibility for the management and control of Legionnaires’ disease and legionella in the workplace.

Our comprehensive legionella responsible person and duty holder training provides a review of Legionnaires’ disease, legionella ecology, potential sources of contamination in engineered water systems, and the UK’s regulatory environment.

The course examines in detail the specific roles and responsibilities of both the statutory duty holder and those who have taken on the role of the responsible person for the control of legionella in the workplace.

It also reviews the Health & Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice ACOP L8 dealing with the control of Legionella bacteria, and their health and safety technical guidance documents HSG274 parts 1, 2 and 3.

Legionella responsible person & duty holder training content

Our intensive two day legionella responsible person and duty holder training courses cover the following essential subjects to ensure delegates develop the skills and practical knowledge required to fulfil their specific management responsibilities with confidence:

  • Introduction

    General introduction to the course and expert trainer.

  • Understanding Legionnaires’ disease

    Understanding Legionnaires’ disease and legionellosis, modes of transmission, common symptoms and medical treatments.

  • Legionella Ecology

    Legionella ecology and the role of biofilm.

  • Regulatory & Control Environment

    A review of the UK’s current regulatory environment dealing with the control of Legionella in the workplace including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

    A detailed review of the Health & Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice ACOP L8 and their latest technical guidance documents HSG274, parts 1, 2 and 3.

  • Roles & Responsibilities

    A review of the specific roles and responsibilities of both the statutory duty holder and the responsible person for the control of legionella in the workplace, and what is required to ensure they fulfil their management responsibilities effectively.

  • Water Systems & Sources of Contamination

    A review of engineered water systems that present a Legionellosis risk and potential sources of contamination.

  • Legionella Risk Assessment

    Identifying risks, the legionella risk assessment process and using this as the basis for the scheme of control.

  • Written Scheme of Control

    Developing the written scheme of control for the management of legionella risks.

  • Effective Risk Management Systems

    Developing and implementing effective risk management systems, management structures, defining roles and responsibilities of the duty holder, responsible person, contractors and others involved in the legionella control process.

  • Legionella Control Measures

    Developing effective legionella control measures to manage and control the growth and proliferation of the bacteria in water systems to reduce risk, improve safety and compliance with the law.

  • Examination

    Multiple choice examination covering the course content.

Additionally, you will learn about the specific roles and responsibilities required of the duty holder and legionella responsible person.

You will understand the importance of the the risk assessment process, how to develop effective risk management processes, and the practical steps required to ensure these risks are properly managed to safeguard health and safety, improve risk management and ensure compliance with the law.

Legionella training certificate

On the successful completion of our legionella responsible person and duty holder training course you will receive a formal certificate of achievement from the water hygiene and legionella control experts at Water Treatment Services.

This certificate is valid for three years and should be kept to demonstrate formal training has been undertaken in this subject.
